two words – pro-rated salary

Just read this on instapundit.  A senator earns $174,000 per year, plus benefits that they will, unlike those of us smothered under the caring blanket of obamacare, actually get to keep, and they don’t even show up for work?!?  I say for every day that the senate “conducts business” without a quorum, all members should be docked an amount equivalent to 1/[days the senate is in session for year] multiplied by $174,000.  The schedule shows the senate being in session 4 out of 5 weeks with a 5 week recess in August/September, so we’ve got … (52-5)*(4/5) = ~38 weeks, or 190 days, so the penalty for skipping would be about $916.  Chump change to these faithful stewards of our nation, but if we can get Professor Reynolds’ revolving door surtax passed, they might start to care, and actually do the job they were elected to do.

Or simply elect a better class of senator – you know, the kind who actually considers himself a public servant and understands what the founding fathers intended.  You don’t need a senate vote for that.
