It’s not global warming, it’s global torque!

I heard about the snow hitting New Zealand, while the U. S. is seeing almost record heat, and it dawned on me that we’re not dealing with global warming at all, although blame can still be laid at the feet of evil western society’s addiction to big vehicles.

Clearly, that we’re seeing extreme heat, while the other hemisphere is experiencing extreme cold, there can be only one explanation – global torque. Because of the large cars and SUVs we drive, we’ve thrown the earth off its axis, leaving us closer to the sun, and the other side farther away.

10 cars for people who hate cars

car qualifying features
honda element square shape, 166hp, 3,500lb – the designers were clearly inspired by an entirely different muse than the one that inspired the viper design team
nissan cube really square shape, 127hp, 2,800lb – put 15″ wheels and tires on it, and it would look almost (almost) as car-like as the first picture every kid draws of a car when he discovers crayons
toyota avalon not as nice as a lexus, fatter than a camry
toyota camry as has been noted by many car blogs, if beige were a car, it would be this one
toyota prius just seeing them on the road saps my will to live a little
volkswagen eos either the concept sketches looked a *lot* better, or the designers were fired from the nissan cube team for lack of imagination
chevrolet impala/malibu first, is there a difference between them? on the other hand, there’s actually something special about a car that you wouldn’t even want as a rental car
smart passion barely 40mpg, when its only purpose is economy (please tell me its only purpose is economy)

Oh, the perfidy of Big “Fashion Tech”!

Heard in the news today that Apple’s market valuation has surpassed Exxon Mobil’s.

Any chance we’ll see dems, “activists”, or Dear Leader go after Apple’s reckless profiteering on the back of poor hunched-over texters? Or hold Apple culpable for the epidemic of deadly TWD (texting while driving)?

Let’s make it easy for them – below are some quotes taken from reaction to oil company profits in April (from this article and this one):

“While Big Oil rakes in windfall profit margins, they do nothing to ease the record-high prices facing American consumers at the pump and slowing our economic recovery,” said the Center for American Progress, a left-leaning Washington think tank.

“When BP makes billions in profits, even after the year they just had, you know it’s time to cap the gusher of tax breaks that have been subsidizing the biggest oil companies for decades,” said Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass.

“When oil companies are making huge profits and you’re struggling at the pump, and we’re scouring the federal budget for spending we can afford to do without, these tax giveaways aren’t right,” Obama said. “They aren’t smart. And we need to end them.”

Let’s take those quotes and do a global search/replace of “Big Oil”, “BP”, and “oil companies”:

“While Big Oil Apple Computer rakes in windfall profit margins, they do nothing to ease the record-high prices facing American consumers at the pump the Apple Store where the cool people hang out and slowing our economic recovery,” said the Center for American Progress, a left-leaning Washington think tank.

“When BP Apple Computer makes billions in profits, even after the year they just had, you know it’s time to cap the gusher of tax breaks that have been subsidizing the biggest oil companies show the source code behind the tax shelters that have protected profits for decades,” said Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass.

“When oil companies Apple Computer are making huge profits and you’re struggling at the pump with the cost of pretty tech, and we’re scouring the federal budget for spending we can afford to do without, these tax giveaways shelters aren’t right,” Obama said. “They aren’t smart. And we need to end them.”

Really! If $4.00 for a gallon of gas is profiteering, what is $500 for an ipad, especially when you consider the ecological cost of all the rare earth element resources needed to keep that supply chain going! It’s enough to make Al Gore take a private jet to a tropical vacation spot to give another stinging rebuke to those horrible climate deniers.
